HPV (Human Papillomavirus) are double-stranded DNA viruses of the Papilomaviridae family, classified by number types according to the order of their detection. More than 100 types of HPV are known, of which about 40 are associated with infections in the genital area. Genital HPV types are categorized according to their epidemiological relationship to cervical cancer of:
- Low Risk Virus Types - 6, 11, 42, 43, 44. Low-risk viral types are associated with a low risk of progression to cervical cancer. Causes of benign or inferior cervical lesions, genital condylomas or recurrent respiratory papillomatosis.
- High Risk Viral Types - 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66. High-risk virus types are associated with an extremely high risk of developing a malignancy. Causes of low-grade, high-grade cervical lesions and invasive carcinoma.
The HPV GEN 16/18 Real-Time PCR Kit is designed to detect, quantify high-risk (HPV 16, 18) papillomavirus.
The use of the HPV GEN 16/18 Real-Time PCR Kit enables rapid identification of the pathogen directly from clinical specimens for the purpose of timely diagnosis and prescribing of specific treatment. The HPV GEN 16/18 Real-Time PCR Kit is also suitable for monitoring the efficacy of the treatment.
